Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has said that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will enter the 2027 coalition talks as a strong and equal partner.

Speaking during an interview on March 26, 2026, Wanga dismissed claims that ODM is desperate for positions in the next government. She said the party is focused on getting a fair share based on its strength and long history in Kenyan politics.

Wanga explained that ODM is one of the biggest political parties in Africa and has experience in forming coalitions. Because of this, she said the party will approach the 2027 negotiations with confidence.

She added that ODM’s main goal is not just to get leadership positions, but to push for important issues.

These include devolution, economic justice, and protection of human rights. According to her, these are the key areas that should guide any government that ODM joins.

Wanga also made it clear that every political party aims to win power. She said parties are not formed for entertainment, but to lead and bring change.

On the issue of choosing a presidential candidate, Wanga said ODM has three options. The party can work with like-minded partners such as United Democratic Alliance (UDA), join other coalitions, or decide to go alone in the elections.

She also dismissed claims that the talks are about individuals. Wanga said she is only focused on her re-election as governor, and the negotiations are about the party as a whole.

Finally, she said ODM’s presidential candidate will be chosen through the party’s National Delegates Convention later this year.
