Tensions across the Middle East have dramatically escalated after massive explosions were reported in several Iranian cities, as the regional conflict entered its fifth day.
Videos recorded by residents across Iran and widely shared on social media show huge blasts lighting up the night sky and thick smoke rising from different locations, indicating widespread destruction.
The footage, which has been verified by major international media outlets including the BBC, reveals the scale of the attacks that have shaken the country since the start of the confrontation.
The crisis began when the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iran last Saturday, a move that reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Clips circulating online show large explosions and damaged infrastructure across multiple Iranian cities, fueling fears of a broader regional war.
The United States has also released its own footage claiming to show how several Iranian military installations were successfully targeted during the strikes.
In response, Iran has launched a wave of retaliatory attacks across the Middle East, intensifying the already volatile situation.
Military analysts warn that the ongoing confrontation could trigger a wider conflict involving multiple countries in the region.
Meanwhile, another dramatic incident unfolded in the Mediterranean Sea, where a Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier sank after a powerful explosion and fire broke out onboard.
Officials from Libya confirmed that the vessel, identified as Arctic Metagaz, went down roughly 130 miles north of the Libyan port city of Sirte.
Russian authorities quickly accused Ukraine of carrying out the attack using drones allegedly launched from Libya’s coastline.
However, Ukraine’s state security agency, the Security Service of Ukraine, has not responded to the accusations.
Libyan port officials said the vessel had been carrying about 62,000 tonnes of liquefied natural gas when the explosion occurred. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown.
According to Russia’s transport ministry, 30 Russian crew members were onboard at the time of the incident. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that all crew members were rescued safely during a joint operation led by Maltese forces.
Byron Camilleri, Malta’s Interior Minister, said the crew members were found alive in a lifeboat and later brought to safety.
Unverified images circulating online appear to show the massive LNG carrier engulfed in flames shortly after Tuesday’s suspected attack, adding another dramatic chapter to an already tense global situation.
Analysts now warn that these parallel incidents could further destabilize international security and energy supply routes.
