Jubilee Deputy Party leader Fred Matiang'i has firmly shut down any idea of joining hands with President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking publicly, Matiang'i said working with Ruto would be a pointless exercise given the President's track record of falling out with former allies.
"What would we be discussing? Work with him on what? Look at his history, the people he has wanted to work with," Matiang'i said.
He went further to say that Ruto was already at odds with people he had previously worked with and questioned what difference a new alliance would make.
Matiang'i also took aim at the Kenya Kwanza government over the ongoing fuel controversies. He accused the administration of allowing cartels to operate freely in the energy sector for the benefit of a select few.
"If I were head of state, I would not engage and allow cartels to operate in the whole sector, clearly driven by individual interest for some vested elite," he said.
On the question of his presidential ambitions, Matiang'i left no room for doubt. He said he was fully committed to running for president in 2027 and was confident about his chances.
"I have not thought about not being President. I am confident and I am serious about everything I do," he stated.
His declaration comes at a time when several opposition figures including Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have all shown interest in the presidency despite belonging to the same political faction.
Matiang'i also pushed back against claims that he was a political project of former President Uhuru Kenyatta. He insisted that serving in the Jubilee administration did not make him anyone's project.
Relations between Matiang'i and Ruto have been visibly strained in recent months with both leaders trading personal attacks in public forums.
