Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has expressed strong confidence that the Mt Kenya region will firmly support President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, signaling continued alignment between regional leaders and the national government.

Speaking during a meeting at State House involving grassroots leaders from Kirinyaga County, Waiguru stated that the region is politically united behind President Ruto and expects to deliver significant votes in the upcoming election.

She emphasized that past election victories in 2017 and 2022 demonstrated the region’s influence and suggested that the same momentum would carry into 2027.

According to her, critics should not mistake political silence for weakness, insisting that the region remains fully engaged and strategic.

Waiguru further argued that President Ruto faces a divided opposition, claiming that competing presidential ambitions among opposition figures weaken their chances of mounting a strong challenge.

During the same engagement, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also reinforced the message of unity and respect for Mt Kenya leadership.

He urged national political actors to acknowledge regional leaders, including governors, MPs, and MCAs, when engaging the region.

Kindiki also dismissed the idea of self-declared “kingpins” in Mt Kenya politics, stating that historical leaders such as former President Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta never adopted such titles despite their influence.

He suggested that leadership in the region has traditionally been rooted in collective responsibility rather than individual dominance, cautioning against personalities who claim singular control over regional political direction.

The remarks come at a time when Mt Kenya politics remains a key factor in national electoral calculations.

The region has historically played a decisive role in presidential outcomes, making its perceived alignment a major point of interest for both government and opposition blocs.

Waiguru also highlighted ongoing collaboration between the county government and the national administration, noting that development projects and coordination have strengthened ties between local and national leadership structures.
