Former Law Society of Kenya president Nelson Havi has openly declared his intention to run for president in the 2027 General Election.
In a public statement shared on social media, Havi revealed plans to visit the Mount Kenya region as part of his early political engagement.
Havi announced that he would be travelling to Murima, Makomboki Primary School in Ndakaini, where he intends to seek political backing from leaders and residents of the Mount Kenya region.
His move signals the start of a grassroots approach as he positions himself for the country’s top seat.
The senior counsel’s declaration has drawn attention because it comes at a time when many potential contenders are still keeping their ambitions quiet.
By going directly to the Mount Kenya region, Havi appears to be targeting one of Kenya’s most influential voting blocs early in the race.
Mount Kenya has historically played a major role in determining the outcome of presidential elections.
Any candidate seeking national leadership often prioritizes building support in the region due to its large voter population and political influence.
Havi, a seasoned lawyer and former head of the country’s largest professional body for advocates, has in recent years become more vocal on national governance, constitutionalism, and leadership issues.
His entry into the presidential race marks a shift from legal activism to direct political competition.
