A viral video making rounds on social media has triggered outrage among Kenyans after showing a man allegedly forcing a woman to cut off braids he had paid for after she rejected his romantic advances.

The unsettling clip, widely shared across Facebook, TikTok, and X, captures a tense confrontation between the two inside what appears to be a small salon or residential room.

In the video, the man is heard angrily demanding that the woman remove the braids immediately, claiming he paid for the hairstyle and therefore had the right to decide what happens to it.

The woman, who appears visibly distressed, tries to reason with him as the argument escalates.

Moments later, scissors are brought out and sections of the freshly braided hair are cut off while she protests. Strands fall to the floor as bystanders watch the heated exchange unfold.

The video has sparked intense online debate, with many users condemning the man’s actions as humiliating and controlling.

Critics say the incident highlights a troubling mindset where some individuals treat financial gestures in relationships as transactions that must be repaid with affection or intimacy.

Several social media users argued that paying for a service or gift does not entitle someone to control another person’s choices. Others pointed out that the situation reflects deeper societal issues surrounding consent and expectations in modern dating.

A smaller group online attempted to defend the man, suggesting he felt deceived after spending money. However, the overwhelming reaction has been critical, with many calling the behavior disrespectful and emotionally abusive.

The incident has also reignited conversations about boundaries and respect in relationships across Kenya, where discussions around gender dynamics and personal autonomy continue to evolve.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the matter has been formally reported to the Kenya National Police Service. Meanwhile, the video continues to circulate online, prompting calls for greater awareness about consent, dignity, and respect in personal relationships.
