The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued its weekly weather forecast, warning Kenyans to prepare for continued rainfall across several regions of the country from Tuesday, March 24, to Monday, March 30, 2026.

While the intensity of the rains is expected to gradually reduce as the week progresses, residents in affected areas are advised to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to safeguard lives and property.

According to KMD, morning rains accompanied by afternoon showers and occasional thunderstorms are expected over the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley.

Counties likely to experience these conditions include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, and Narok. Evening and night showers are also forecast in most of these areas during the week.

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi County, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi counties, are expected to experience cold and cloudy conditions, with intermittent morning rains giving way to sunny intervals.

Afternoon, evening, and night showers or thunderstorms may occur in some of these areas.

Residents in the South Eastern Lowlands and the Coastal region, including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, can expect scattered showers in the morning, afternoon, and evening, with isolated heavy downpours possible in certain areas.

Northern counties, including Turkana, Marsabit, Samburu, and Wajir, are likely to see occasional rainfall, though amounts are generally lower than in central and western regions.

KMD has urged residents in all affected areas to remain cautious, avoid crossing flooded roads, and stay away from rivers and low-lying locations.

Families are encouraged to keep abreast of official weather updates, ensure vulnerable members are safe, and take preventive measures as the country experiences several days of intermittent rainfall.

While the rains are expected to reduce gradually toward the end of the week, KMD emphasizes that localized heavy showers and thunderstorms may still occur, particularly over western and central Kenya, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and preparedness.
