Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has recounted a terrifying near-accident while driving with his wife and daughter, describing the incident as a moment where divine intervention saved them.

Speaking during a public address on Monday, Museveni said he narrowly avoided a collision on a busy Kampala highway.

“I thank God for bringing me back in time,” the president said, visibly shaken. “It was a close call, but we came out safe. I was driving with my wife and our daughter, and I realized how fragile life can be.”

According to Museveni, the vehicle he was in nearly collided with another car that had swerved unexpectedly.

Quick reflexes and calm decision-making prevented a serious accident, he explained. Eyewitnesses confirm that the presidential motorcade briefly caused traffic to slow as the situation was assessed.

This incident comes at a time when Museveni has been emphasizing road safety and responsible driving during public campaigns.

He used the moment to remind citizens about the importance of caution on Ugandan roads. “Every driver should respect traffic rules. Life is precious, and we never know when it can change in a second,” he said.

Social media users quickly reacted, with many expressing relief that the first family was unharmed. Memes and messages praising Museveni’s survival circulated widely, reflecting the public’s engagement with the story.

While no injuries were reported, the president’s account serves as a stark reminder of road safety concerns in East Africa, where traffic accidents remain a leading cause of fatalities. Museveni concluded his narration by thanking God and urging Ugandans to value life and stay vigilant on the roads.
