Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has declared that he will not seek re-election on an ODM ticket, a move that is already stirring fresh political debate within Homa Bay County and beyond.

Speaking during a local event over the weekend, Omondi said his decision comes after deep reflection on his political journey and the changing dynamics within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

While he did not go into full details about his next move, the legislator hinted that he is exploring alternative political paths ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“I will not run on an ODM ticket again,” Omondi stated firmly, drawing mixed reactions from residents and local leaders who attended the gathering.

His remarks come at a time when ODM, led by Raila Odinga, is undergoing internal realignments following recent national political developments.

The party has been facing growing pressure to manage emerging dissent among its ranks, especially from leaders who feel sidelined or dissatisfied with nomination processes.

In Suba South, Omondi’s announcement has sparked speculation about possible new alliances.

Some of his supporters argue that the MP has remained independent-minded and may perform better outside the ODM structure, while others worry that a divided vote could weaken the region’s political influence.

Political analysts say the move reflects a broader trend in Kenyan politics, where leaders are increasingly prioritizing personal political survival over party loyalty.

With the 2027 race still some distance away, such early declarations signal the beginning of intense behind-the-scenes negotiations and positioning.
